Global Warming in the Ocean
Causes of global warming
Greenhouse gasses and the burning of fossil fuels are the main causes of global warming.
Methane
This is another primary greenhouse gas, but this gas only accounts for 9% of the greenhouse gasses emitted in the U.S. Methane also doesn't have s much of an effect on marine life as carbon dioxide does.
Carbon dioxide
This is the most common greenhouse gas, and this is the gas that effects the ocean the most. This gas is 82% of all greenhouse gasses emitted in the U.S.
Deforestation is one of the greatest contributors to carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere.
Burning fossil fuels is the greatest contributor to carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere
Effects of global warming
Some marine species are moving to cooler areas of the ocean to escape the heat caused by global warming
People that relied on fish as a source of food and money now cannot benefit off the fish because they are swimming to cooler areas
Some marine species are dying and going extinct due to the effects of global warming
This can also effect people who rely on marine species as a source of food and money because the species that they rely on are going extinct
Potential solutions of global warming
Preventing Deforestation
There could be laws created that prevent deforestation or at lease limit the amount of trees being cut down due to deforestation
We could create a charity group that helps plant more trees in the world to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere
We could use cleaner forms of energy to limit the amount of fossil fuels being burned
Solar energy
Wind energy
Water energy
Protecting marine life
We could use selective breeding to help species adapt to the warmer ocean temperatures
