Gloria Martinez - Bronx Masquerade
AGE
High school age. Student with two years until graduation. Plans to attend college after graduation to support her child since she is a single mother.
She views herself as a mother that has to do good for her child. She is a strong young mother that is pushing her way through school and still striving to go to college just to give her baby a better life. Some may view her life as wonderful because she has a baby, but she wants them to realize that a child changes everything and you can no longer think and do things for yourself.
"Mami says she'll help, but it's me who has to make a good life for Angel. It's like she says, my life ain't about just me anymore. It's about my son. Lupe has no idea how lucky she is. How can I get through to her?(Grimes 42)

-
Has a child with a male based on his mention in the text and how he does not want anything to do with their son, Angel.
"Angel's father already told me straight-up he ain't having nothing to do with this baby, so it's on me." (Grimes 42)
"Her life took a new spin. This screaming gift did not lead her to dream places or fill all her empty spaces like she thought." (Grimes 43)
"A major goal of multicultural education is to provide all students vvith the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to function within their community cultures, within the mainstream culture, and within and across other ethnic cultures." (Banks, 2006b)

What you think can fix things or fill spaces does not always happen. In the blink of an eye, your whole word can change and you have to adapt, just as Gloria had to when becoming a young, single mother. This is a relatable experience for many young girls which is why I selected her.
