- - - - Integrity of Trace Evidence
        The procedure used to collect trace evidence must be protective of the evidence. Contamination is a huge problem, so gloves must be worn to prevent transfer of DNA. Anything that is going to be processed for fingerprints must be handled in a way that additional fingerprints do not transfer to the object. Degradation is a huge problem because of environmental effects. Environmental effects can include living organisms, weather, chemistry of environment, the superstrate, and the amount of time the evidence is out in the elements.
  - - - USPS will not ship unfired ammunition due to it's dangerous nature. Therefore, it must be shipped by a third party carrier. It typically results in additional costs.
- - - - High Security: Some examples of evidence with high security are: collectable firearms of high value, high-profile cases subject to media interest, and sensitive items with access on a need-to-know basis, cash, bonds, any financial instruments, drug evidence, jewelry, precious metals, coins, gemstones, and any item high in value.
