Ending the War
Surrender
November 11,1918
This was the date Germany finally surrender. After refusing to surrender after defeat was certain, Germany lost their most important naval base and were completely surrounded, they had no option but to surrender.

Two Fronts
Western Front
Trench Warfare-These were massive dugouts that made it extremely difficult for opposing armies to penetrate
Battles of Verdun and the Somme-Verdun was a massive artillery battle that was a crucial victory for France and was the longest battle in history, Somme was used to distract the Germans and catch them off guard.
Eastern Front
The Austrians were also battling the Russians in this front, similarly to the Germans the Austrians were in a two front war, they were fighting the serbians in the south and Russians in the the north. Unlike Germany however, Austria could not overcome the disadvantage of being outmanned by Germany so they decided to simply focus on the Serbians and accept defeat to the Rusisians.
In the eastern front was fought between Russia and Germany, despite Russia having a massive advantage in numbers due to most German soldiers being in the Western front, Germany still had an advantage thanks to their better technology and weapons
Causes
Short Term
The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the final straw. It caused all the countries to turn on one another due to the previously formed alliances and already high tensions.

Homefront
The Home Fronts were located extremely close to the actual cities. Soldiers often joked about how they could eat breakfast in the trenches and dine at a restaurant in the city in the same day. Being in the home front for a soldier was a dream since they were so close to home.
