Homefront
Paying the War:The U.S. would spend more than $30 billion on fighting during the World War 1. In 1913, a personal income tax had been introduced in the constitution in the 16th amendment. Wartime increases in tax rates significantly increased government-collected funds.
Production: The military and private industry didn't work together to address industrial needs and the distribution of materials and goods has been totally disorganised. President Wilson formed the War Industry Board to set production standards and organize rail and shipping efforts.
Conservation measures:The agency promoted voluntary measures, such as meatless Mondays and wheatless Wednesdays. It offered canning lessons and modified recipes, and encouraged Americans to plant vegetable gardens in yards and vacant spaces.
Service:In the windows of homes throughout America, american flags were displayed, adorned with a blue star for every family member in the military that lost their life.
Propaganda:The committee produced articles, posters, pamphlets ,films ,speeches, and rallies which promoted the Allied cause and painted the Central Powers (especially Germany) as enemies of democracy and civilization.
