User Experiences and Interfaces
Useability Principles
Accessibility
Accessibility
When we develop ideas for a digital solution, we should always consider how accessible the final product is for all users.
When you explore a digital problem, you should consider:
Which groups of people need to be considered, and why.
Which tools different people use to interact with your digital solution.
How to make accessibility part of the development process.
Accessible multimedia
Screen reading
Text colour contrast
Safety
Interface should create an envirnoment which makes the user feel safe
Learnability and Effectiveness
CARP design principles
Carp stands for contrast, alignment, repetition and proximity.
Contrast insists that any item you would like to stand out and be eye-catching should contrast with its background and other things.
Alignment is about positioning graphical components. By aligning certain elements, the designer can create visual chunking of content that eases reading.
Repetition of elements, such as font, colours and shape, creates a uniformity that promotes design harmony.
Proximity requires that all related information should be organised in the same area on the page, rathar than scattered about and making it difficult for users to understand the page.
Users need to be able to interact with a digital solution quickly and easily.
Takes less time and user effort to learn how to use a digital solution if an interface is learnable.
Utility
Resposiveness
A responsive design will dynamically adjust to screen size
Responsive solutions adjust to the capabilities of a device
Portability
An interface is said to be portable if it is platform-independent.
Does not rely on hardware or particular operating system.
Use of open-source software can improve interface portibility
Testing user interfaces on multiple platforms can help portability.

User Needs
To engage the emotion of the user
Users should not be encumbered by the interface to a digital solution and should be able to predict what will happen in response to each of their actions
Functional Requirements
Good interface design will also minimise input errors.
