On The Radio - Regina Spektor

Verse 2

This is how it works
It feels a little worse
Than when we drove our hearse
Right through that screaming crowd
While laughing up a storm
I'd say we were just bone
Until it got so warm
That none of us could sleep
And all the Styrofoam
Began to melt away
We tried to find some worms
To aid in the decay
But none of them were home
Inside their catacomb
A million ancient bees
Began to sting our knees
While we were on our knees
Praying that disease
Would leave the ones we love
And never come again

Verse 1

On the radio
We heard "November Rain"
That solo's really long
But it's a pretty song
We listened to it twice
Cause the DJ was asleep

literary devices

Rhyme

This is how it works
You're young until you're not
You love until you don't
You try until you can't
You laugh until you cry
You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe
Until their dying breath

No, this is how it works
You peer inside yourself
You take the things you like
Then try to love the things you took
And then you take that love you made
And stick it into some
Someone else's heart
Pumping someone else's blood
And walking arm in arm
You hope it don't get harmed
But even if it does
You'll just do it all again

And on the radio
You'll hear "November Rain"
That solo's awfully long
But it's a good refrain
You'll listen to it twice
Cause the DJ is asleep

On the radio
On the radio
On the radio, uh oh
On the radio, uh oh
On the radio, uh oh
On the radio

That solo's really long
 But it's a pretty song

Atmosphere

Throughout verse one, the reader feels hopeless, uncontrollable and trapped.

message

"November Rain" is a song sang by Guns N' Roses. The length of the song is about nine minutes and the solo in the song repeated the most. Someone from the band played his guitar the whole time during the solo. The author is trying to imply that the solo is really long but the guitar that played by the band is amazing

the author is giving a scenario relating to its message. The repetition helps embracing the message in the scenario.

message

In Verse 3, the author talks about love, interest what humans react to what they have interested in. The meaning in the lyrics are pretty clear, people take what they like and try to love what they took. When people found their love, they share an emotion being vulnerable to each other. People wish they don't get harm loving but if it really happens they will just find a new one again.

literary devices

Rhyme

And walking arm in arm
You hope it don't get harmed

Archetype

You hope it don't get harmed
But even if it does
You'll just do it all again

I've heard this sentence many times in different songs and poems.

Symbolism

You take the things you like
Then try to love the things you took
And then you take that love you made
And stick it into some
Someone else's heart
Pumping someone else's blood

"things" means the love you chose. The "love" you took means process. Sticking in to someone else's heart means giving it all to your love. pumping someone else's blood means dating.
