Indication
It decreases hepatic glucose production (gluconeogenesis) and increases peripheral glucose uptake by muscles.

Nursing consideration
Do not use with renal dysfunction, metabolic acidosis it may cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, lactic acidosis.
monitor patient closely for ketoacidosis and lactic acidosis, discontinue medication immediately if acidotic.
Mechanism of action
This medication is used to decrease hepatic (liver) glucose production, to decrease gastrointestinal glucose absorption and to increase target cell insulin sensitivity.
Dosage
Tablet, immediate-release for adult and child 500 mg
850 mg
