Climate factors (pg. 60-65)
Elevation
As elevation increases, temperature decreases.
Due to less gravity on air particles.
Latitude
Places closest to equator receive more concentrated energy from the sun.
Higher latitude means less concentrated solar energy.
Air masses and wind
All Warm air comes from the equator
All Cold Air comes from the poles.
All gets mixed up because the earth is spinning
Everyday cold and warm air meet in the battle of the AIR MASSES!!!!!!!!!!!
When cold and warm air meet…
Relief
Relief is the difference in height between the highest and lowest altitudes.
Windward side receives much more precipitation than the leeward.
Ocean currents
There are 90% cold water currents bringing cool water to the equator, and 10% warm water current, bringing warm water to the arctic.
This is known as a conveyor belt.
Bodies of water
Bodies of water takes a long time to heat up or cool down, preventing nearby land temperatures from getting too extreme.
