Physics Space topics notes so far
its very much knowledge based and has no new formulas
Newtons laws
Rockets launching relates to newtons third law-understanding off take off gases and combustion of fuel
links to space travel in that the 2nd and 3rd law are often applied
second law using F=ma relevant to questions about escaping gravitational pull and acceleration required ect
Calculations
often have to use W=mg and F=ma together in calcuations
Example of above is determining the acceleration of rockets
Space exploration
can use quizlet to help learn these
a lot of definitions needed for planets, suns etc etc
SPACE TRAVEL
knowledge of the SQA defined challenges of space travel
COSMOLOGY
definition of the term 'light year' as the distance light travels in one year
use of formula d=vt
conversion of light years to meters and vice versa-seems confusing
toughest part of topic is large amount of new material, will need a lot of work during exam rev
When revising this topic for exams, will need to use many different strategies due to dept of knowledge required and amount of stuff to learn
practise questions, watching videos, quizlet, past papers
https://www.youtube.com/user/physicswoman
use these kinds of channels to develop your understanding, will be very useful in open questions
many different applications of knowledge regarding EM spectrum-new stuff and so will need work
Awareness
I am aware of the benefits and some of the uses of satellites
I am aware that travelling long distances can be achieved with an ion drive
I am aware that a gravitational assist can be used to allow a craft to travel long distances
I am aware that manoeuvring in a zero friction environment is challenging as there are no resistive forces
