VIA Character Strength Assessment
Myers-Briggs Test
Weaknesses: The Myers-Briggs test identified that some of my weaknesses are poor handling of emotions and impatience. I agree that these are some of my weaknesses. For example, I can sometimes get frustrated with something but release my frustration onto someone who had nothing to do with what was making me upset. In terms of impatience, one example is when I ask a question to someone over text or email. If I do not get a response quickly, I become impatient and frustrated with the person even though they may just be busy at the specific time.
Motivations: I think that in order to improve my handling of emotional, I can practice different methods such as journaling and writing my feelings somewhere instead of taking them out on others. Also, I can try to talk to a friend or family member about the issue I am having instead of taking my feelings out on them. In order to improve my patience I think I could try and remember that some things do not need to be done right away. I can also plan my time so that I am not relying on others for things that are last minute.
Strengths: This test identified that my personality type is a commander. Some of the strengths that match with this personality type are efficient, strategic thinker, and strong willed. I believe that I exhibit these traits in my daily life. For example, when doing schoolwork I am very efficient in getting things done and am able to recognize when taking a break will lead to more productive work later on. I also believe that I am a strategic thinker. This means that when thinking of solutions and solving problems, I think about the big picture and a permanent solution. One example of this in my life is when I get an assignment back, I take time to understand the feedback I received so that I can apply it to the next assessment and sometimes even to other courses. Lastly, I believe that I am strong willed. This means that I persevere and do not give up when things get tough. One example of this is that I make time to workout at least twice a week. Even though some weeks I have a lot of work, I still workout because I know that it is important for me to do in addition to my work.
Weaknesses: Some of the character strengths that were near the end of the list included spirituality, self regulation, and love. I do agree that spirituality is a weaker character strength of mine as I have a scientific outlook on life rather than a sense of connection with something bigger than oneself. Although this is identified as a weakness, I do not think it is something that necessarily has to change and is instead something that I will continue to learn about as I grow as a person. Another weakness that was identified was self regulation. I agree that this is a weakness of mine and think that it is definitely something that I could work towards improving. One example of this is that when trying to go to sleep at a reasonable hour I find myself spending an excessive amount of time on my phone or computer. This becomes an issue as I get tired in the day and am not able to work and learn as effectively. Lastly, one of my weaker character strengths is love. I also agree with this as I find that I have trouble expressing my affection towards others.
Motivations: One character strength that I feel motivated to improve is my self regulation in terms of getting enough sleep. I think that it is very important for me to do so because it will help me be able to learn better at school. One way that I could learn to stay off of my electronics is by putting them far away from my room so that I have no interruptions when going to bed. Another way in which I could improve is by reading before bed since it is the blue light from screens that is bad for me. This would also be good because it would give me a chance to read more books which I do not get the chance to do very often.
Strengths: This assessment identified that my greatest character strengths are humility, kindness, and creativity. I think that I agree with these strengths. I believe that I am a fairly humble person, but I still take pride in what I have accomplished. Sometimes I think that my humility can actually turn into a weakness. For example, when I got the math award last year I did not tell my parents about it because I did not think it was a big deal. I should learn to be more proud of my accomplishments. Second, I think that I am a kind person in my daily life. If I ever see that someone needs help with something big or small, I try my best to help out as much as I can. For example, if one of my friends needs help with a concept we are learning in math, I use my knowledge try to help them learn the concept. Lastly, one of my character strengths is creativity. I think that being creative is one of the ways in which I express myself. For example, I really enjoy art class and being able to express my thoughts in many different forms and mediums.
Weaknesses: This assessment identified my weakest intelligences as language and nature. I think that these weaknesses also match me as a person. One reason I think my weakness is language is because english is one of my worse subject and it not a subject that I enjoy as much as science or math. This aligns with the fact that it is a weaker intelligence. I believe that I am also less intelligent in terms of nature and the natural world. For example, although I have gone on a few camping trips, I enjoy the social aspect of it more than actually camping. What I mean by this is that I like to spend time with my friends and get to know them better and although it can be refreshing to be in nature, I do not feel specifically connected to it.
Motivations: I feel motivated to improve both my lower intelligences as I feel that it will lead to me being a more well rounded person. Firstly, I think in order to improve my language intelligence I should practice writing more in my free time. I could also read more to expand my vocabulary and learn about different ways to write. Second, I think I can improve my natural intelligence by spending more time in nature, but also learning about what is around me like plants, animals, and geographic features. I think that doing so would make me much more interested in nature.
Strengths: The multiple intelligence assessment concluded that my strongest types of intelligence are logic/math and spatial. I agree with this are feel that these intelligences align with me as a person. Firstly, I am a very logical thinker and I like to understand the way things work. This is why I enjoy chemistry a lot. Math is also one of my strongest subject which makes sense since it is my strongest intelligence. One other example of this type of intelligence is that I enjoy doing puzzles which is one of the activities included in the description of the intelligence. I also feel that the assessment was correct about my spatial intelligence. I am a visual learner and find it easier to understand subject when I can see what I am learning which is one of the traits of spatial intelligence. I also enjoy drawing and exploring other medias in art class. My enjoyment of visually thinking in ways like art was also identified in the character strength test where creativity was one of my strengths.
Weaknesses: the test identified some of my weaknesses as inefficient and weak understanding of emotions. The test identified that I am inefficient which contradicts the results of the Myers-Briggs test which said that I am efficient. I would agree more with the other test as I do believe that I am an efficient person whether that relates to schoolwork or other things I have to do in general.. I do however agree that I have a weaker understanding of my emotions. Sometimes when I am upset I cannot figure out the root cause of the emotion and end up just blaming it on a small problem. This can become an issue when I am not able to deal with the underlying cause of my emotions. It can lead to the emotion lingering for a long period of time which is not good for me,
Motivations:I think that this test has definitely motivated me to start trying to think deeply about the root cause of my emotions and had helped me realise that it is important for me to do so in order to support my well being. Although I do feel that I am an efficient person, I also think that there is always room for improving and I think that one way I can improve my efficiency is by staying on task while doing work. This can be done by putting my phone away from me when I am doing work to remove the temptation it might give me.
Strengths: The emotional IQ test identified me as a PEMW. This stands for persistent, empathetic, emotional, welcoming. The test identified my strengths as being a good listener, recognizing people's emotions and needs, and passionate. I agree that I am a good listened as I am always ready to listen to someone else and offer them advice on feedback on anything. I also often do so for friends and I think I am someone who is easy to talk to. I also think that I can recognize people's emotions and needs well. For example, I can tell if one of my friends or family members is or is not having a good day and can usually try to make them feel better if necessary. The last strength is passion and I somewhat agree with this. I do think that I can get passionate about topics that I am interested, but the way the emotional IQ test explained was in a way that I let my emotions influence my actions and that I obey my impulse. I believe that this is not true since I am a very logical person as shown in the multiple intelligence test
