inhibitors (Acarbose)
Action
inhibits the conversion of carbohydrates into monosaccharides
therefore absorption of monosaccharides does not occur
Side effect
Diarrheoa
And also bloating & nausea
– flatulence
Contrindications
patients with cirrhosis
patients with chronic intestinal disease
patients with Diabetic Ketoacidosis
Dose
for ≥ 30 ml/min = Start with 50 mg once daily with meals
increase by 50 mg every two weeks if tolerated
Maximum dose is 100 mg x3 daily.
≤ 30 ml/min = Not recommended
Indication
indicated to adults with Diabetes Mellitus type 2
added to diet & exercise to control elevated blood glucose level
