Legal Responsibilities
We must not infringe on the intellectual properties of other brands, including logo uses eg. Marvel, Disney, Gucci ect.
Materials
To be used for the base material of the garments is a cotton drill, which is a bit heavier and will be less see-through compared to the calico. Giving the patience a sense of dignity.
Technologies
- The embroidery machine is a very technical element of our process as it is new to our team and we will have to work through trial and error to ensure that they end design is perfect
- Fabric dye is a technology we are going to incorporate in our garments as well as bleach. To ensure we use appropriately we need to research the strength of the dye and how much to use, as well as the safety concerns for the bleach as it is a very harmful chemical.
-
Purpose, function & context
- Ensuring length is appropriate for the children (below the knees to stop tripping hazards)
- The dye and fabric is durable for hot machine washing and able to provide comfort and is safe and practical for surgeries and treatments
- Velcro to be attached to either the back or the sleeves of the hospital gown, (this includes both buttons and ties)
- To have a variety of unisex and gender specific gowns.
- To be functional and flexible for the child when moving around the ward.
User-centred Design
-
To be able to be removed excessively and to not obstruct the injured/unwell patient with broken bones or injected with the drip.
The garment must be easily removed when needed or during surgeries. The back of the garment must be able to be easily undone for fast removal or access. For the sleeves of the garment, we will be using press studs (so that the patient's arm can be taken out of the gown if it is broken or if there are any other complications, or for easy access to that region)
-
Visual, tactile & aesthetic
The requirements and considerations towards the customer:
- To be a distraction for the child to put away the nerves of the child going into theatre, (colourful and bright colours to brighten the child's day).
- We want to add designs such as butterflies, trains, things that they will want to wear which appeal to them visually
- We are considering doing something interactive such as fluffy things, things they can touch!
Sustainability
The gowns are sustainability because they are going to be reused again and again. We must insure that our materials are durable and don't need to be replaced so that they can be used for a long period of time reducing consumerism.
Economics
We do not have to consider the budget as our suppliers (the school) will cover the costs, but we have to make sure our product meets deadline of May 29th 2020.
