PHYSIOLOGY

-
Concepts of heart rate, stroke volume, and cardiac output
-
-
upstream causes
-
Direct effect
myocardial infarction; caused permanent damage to the papillary muscle of the left ventricle= mitral valve failure
down stream effects
respiratory system
blood can back up in veins that take blood to lungs if heart can't pump efficiently= pulmonary edema (so you'll have trouble breathing)
Urinary system
heart can become to full of blood if it can't pump efficiently; causes pressure build up in main vein connected to kidneys= blockage/reduced O2 supply= kidney disease
ANATOMY
Heart Structures
Layers of the heart wall
-
Endocardium: innermost layer; continuous with endothelial lining of blood vessels, lines heart chambers

Major Arteries
-
Coronary arteries: arise from base of aorta and supply atrial blood to heart; encircle heart in coronary sulcus
