5.5 Digital Security
-
Permissions
A permission to access files or directories where the user is only allowed to read or view, not to make changes.
-
Write
Allows users to add files and subfolders, allows you to write to a file.
Encryption
It is to protect digital data confidentiality as it is stored on computer systems and transmitted using the internet or other computer networks.
This is where data is scrambled when it is stored on a database. If someone did gain access to the database they would not be able to make use of the encrypted data.
Files that require a security clearance. Files that are maybe sensitive or confidential. An example of this could be the medical record of someone. These files should be encrypted as only the person such as the doctor should be able to look at the files when needing to.
Firewall
It is a network security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules. A software which stops unauthorised packets/data from accessing the network.
It prevents unauthorised access to or from a private computer network. The difference between Firewall and Antivirus is that a Firewall acts as a barrier for the incoming traffic to the system. Conversely, Antivirus protects against internal attacks like malicious files.
Username/Passwords
Your credentials are sent to the website's server and compared with the information they have on file. When a match is found, you'll be able to enter your account.
The key aspects of a strong password are length (the longer the better); a mix of letters (upper and lower case), numbers, and symbols, no ties to your personal information.
Anti-Spyware
The programs help to block and prevent spyware and other malware infections on computers. It could record your screen and it could record all your keystrokes so gain a password as you enter it.
