Task Avoiding
Trying to leave the classroom
Have an inviting classroom environment so the students are wanting to work
Let students know that there can be consequences for leaving without asking
Give brain breaks for the students do not feel overwhelmed
Disrupting the instruction time
Have classroom time to share thoughts and feeling
Also give brain breaks for the class to "wiggle"
Give active breaks
Praise student when they do something positive
Give point sheets for students so they have goals to work towards
Inform parents that their student can disrupt the classroom so they are aware of the issue
Work with both parents and students about goals to have while in the classroom
Unwilling to do class work
Open up communication with the student the class work.
Ask students what types of assignments they enjoy doing; videos, writing, group project, etc.
Moving to a different location to work so the student can focus
Poor Attendance
Not going to school
Let the parents know that their child is not going to school
Does the student have access to the bus?
Have a welcoming and fun classroom so the student will want to be in school
Showing to class or school late on a regular basis
Talk to the student to see if they are getting enough sleep at night
Talk to the parents to see if there any problems at home that are preventing the child to come to school or class on time
If the child comes from poverty make sure that they getting food and clothes
Let the principal or school counselor that a certain child is always showing late and missing important instruction time
Avoiding certain classes
Talk to students about why they avoid those certain classes
Give a reward when they accomplish their work in the subject they are struggling in
Let the parents know that their child try to get out doing only certain class work
Provide a variety of assignments so they can pick one they will enjoy doing
Behavior Issues
Becoming violent either physically or verbally
Have open communication with the school administration about having the safest classroom for all students
Have other outlet for the student for when the start to feel violent
Work with the student about being self-aware of their feelings and how to calm themselves down
Have a calming station in room for the students that need it
Talk about with the administration about having a separate room for when a student starts to become violent either to themselves or other s
Being open rude or disrespectful
Talk to the student to see if there something causes this behavior
Alert parents about the behavior to see if something if going on at home
Create a more positive environment that creates positive attitude
Give positive reinforcement for positive behavior
Have positive goals for the student
Unwilling to listen to instruction or instructors
Positive talk with growth mindset
Give nonverbal cues so the students to listen
Talk with student about why they aren't listening
Takes notes on what types of instruction the student does listen too
Request a quite room to better help the student focus on work
Poor grades
Refusing to do or turn in class work
Talk to student about why they are not turning in work
Extend due dates to give extra time for the student to complete assignments .
Let parent or guardians know that their child is not turning their work.
When the student complete their work give them praise
Afraid to let an adult know they don't understand
Letting the student know that it is okay to not understand something
Try to give one on one instruction if you can
Provide grade level work if the student is lower than their grade level
Group work so they student can also learn from their peers
Provide a welcoming classroom so students can express their feelings
Failing more than one class
