main idea
attention is the key for locating the main idea , to find the the main idea from a paragraph is finding the most relevant information from the work. A main idea can be as direct so it’s easy to locate, or the author can put the main idea throughout the paragraphs.
- who : identifying the person/people the text is about
- what : identifying the topic or the general theme of the text
- when : identifying the reference to a specific time
- why : identifying the reason or the motive for what happens in the text
- where : identifying the specific setting or place
- how : identifying a method / theory the texts perceive

inding main ideas in longer texts can be hard, easy way to do it is :
- title : by looking at the title it provides a good general theme of the topic and the text, it guides the reader to the main idea
- to identify the main idea fast, look at the first and last sentences, because the main idea is usually located in those sentences.
- look for repeated words, it will be a strong indicator of the importance of the text, whether is relative or not.
f the writer doesn’t state their main idea clearly it can be hard to locate it, its harder to locate main ideas when it is being implied so you really have to get the gist and analyse every single paragraph
several sentences can imply the main idea, it can be drawn from facts, reasons or example as a hint on the main focus of the text
The main idea is the key concept that the author is expressing. Other minor and major details will support the main idea. Usually in paragraphs where they stick to a particular theme, a main idea is the most important piece of information the core of the paragraph, and the other paragraphs are the other information leading to the main idea.
A writer will state their main idea somewhere in the paragraph, it could be at the beginning, middle , or at the end. The first paragraphs usually contains the main theme that is being discussed, it can also be found at concluding sentences .
