Calorie: This is a dietary calorie, meaning it is a kilocalorie (1,000 calories)
The law of conservation of energy: states that the total energy of an isolated system remains constant

Specific heat: the heat required to raise the temperature of the unit mass of a given substance by a given amount

Temperature: the average kinetic energy of particles in the sample. Temperature can be measured in degrees Celsius or Kelvins (K). 270 Kelvins is 0 degrees Celsius.
