The Video Game Finder
Usability Principles
.
Large icons will be used accompanied by commonly seen icons for users to easily access screens of the app. The apps icon will also be dark blue and white to be similar to the apps screens and to stand out on the users iPad home screen. Wifi will also not be needed for the app to run. There will also be a clear colour contrast of dark blue and white between background and text
.
The app has a simple layout with not too much going on. Its main focus is allowing users to find a game suitable for that and every function in the app is for that purpose
.
Common elements for learnability: settings icon which users are familiar with, magnifying glass next to the "search" button for clarity and familiarity, common element 'i' for information next to the browse button and a refresh arrow will be consistently in the top right of the screen to refresh the app
.
Users aren't required to input their name so that their details are always protected. The app is also very easy to navigate which can prevent making errors
.
The app can perform both searches and can browse based on the users needs which is useful to each individual user. The app also has almost two thousand data records stored in it consisting of a wide range of different games to make it useful to users
.
The app caters to a wide range of users: both users very familiar with gaming and users who aren't to make it effective

Proposed Solution
Lucy
A part of the options to narrow a search will also include: the ability to sort by age categories (because her son is 10 years old), the ability to search for number of players (multiplayer option) and also the option to sort by console to find games which are compatible
Garrath
The app provides a search function where a user can search for a specific game and view the information about that game. This will help Garrath quickly become updated on the games his co-workers are talking about.
Daiki
For accessibility, users will be provided with a settings feature where language options will be included to cater for users like Daiki. Since he likes action games, there will be an option for users to browse by genre.
Problem
Daiki
A Japanese, teenage boy who likes to play action games. Daiki doesn’t speak any English and other game search engines he has found don’t provide him with the option to change the language so he can’t understand.
Lucy
Lucy has a 10 year old son who is having 3 of his friends over for the weekend. They like to play sports games and Lucy only has an Xbox 360 so needs to find games which they can all play on it together.
Garrath
Garrath often hears his co-workers talking about old video games but doesn’t know what they are. He is afraid that his colleagues won’t like him if they find out he doesn’t know about their games so he needs a way to quickly find information about various games.
Impacts
The app will allow users to more easily and quickly find games which suit their needs. This will save them time and energy looking elsewhere
