1.4 What Is College Really?
Describe differences between large and small college classes and discuss the implications for learning.
You are less likely to get stage fright in a small class
It is harder to hear the lecture in a big class
More access to help in a small class
You are more reliant on yourself in a big class
It is easier to build a relationship and mutual respect with the professor and students in a small class
Understand courses within your own college program: core courses, electives, and major courses.
Most colleges require a list of courses
Electives are courses you choose freely to complete the total number of credits needed for your program or degree.
Required courses in major are determined by an individual academic department.
Core courses, or general education requirements, involve a range of courses from which you can choose to meet requirements

Describe different skills needed for online courses.
Must be motivated to work since you don't physically go to class
Must have time management in order to finish assignments in due time
Need to own or have access to a recent computer model with high speed internet.
FOCUS
Know how to learn your college’s policies and understand their importance.
Most Important policy is academic honesty
Sometimes students do not understand the rules and find themselves in trouble.
Know policies regarding alcohol, sexual harassment, hazing, hate crimes, etc
Be mindful of add and drop dates, payment schedules and refunds, etc.
Know what resources your college makes available to students and how to access them.
