Feminism is for Everybody bell hooks
What work does feminism need to do?
Beauty and Fashion industry
the sheer joy of the 70s of getting to wear pants/leaving behind bras. "our flesh was worthy of love and adoration" (32). recounts the victory of 70s feminism
"capitalist investors" paying for images of feminists as "masculine"
feminists changed the market, "strengths of consumer dollars" Boycotting and collective action to change the market
"pathological, life-threatening aspects of appearance obsessions" (33). Over eating, starvation, and the answer is medical centers/medical access
Problems/context: the perception of what feminism is is wrong. thirdhand hearsay instead of actual feminists (oh, you're the exception)
anti-male, women hating men; this hides the problem. It's not men's fault, it's SEXISM
"By naming sexism as the problem it went directly to the heart of the matter. Practically, it is a definition that implies that all sexist thinking and action is the problem, whether those who perpetuate it are female or male, child or adult" (1) gives us a sense of solidarity, this is everyone's fight. what if women can be sexist? Women
"as a consequence of the academization" Women studies at universities--books that rely on academic jargon create an accessible feminist text (no jargon)
we need pamphlets, the feminist TV networkl,
the tone and what's after anger?
Feminist Education
"community-based" outside of nuclear family in a way tyhat reflects the diversity of a community
"socialized" in a narrow way "feminists are made, not born"
education can't be only classrooms
children's literaturew
there should have been men's groups where men can share outside of patriarchal judgement/punishments
Reproductive Rights

not just abortion--it's about sex ed, resources ACSESS,
"there could be no genuine sexual liberation for women and men without better, safer contrceptives--without the right to a safe, legal abortion" (26)
"The anti-choice movement is fundamentally anti-feminist" (29).
Women at Work
"I knkew firsthand that working for low wages did not liberate poor and working class women from male domination" it's not the pay gap, it's the workforce and the types of work available
cost of living increases v wages. "self-sufficiency" is the goal, not just employed
"wages subsidized by the state" and education for those who stay at home (52)
women and class
class inequality is CENTRAL
creation of feminist housing ; education for critical consciousness where feminist women with class power need to use material privilege for those disenfranchised
lesbian critiques of class struggle since they were outside of heteronormative family structures
