- - - - At the college Lee stood out because she didn't care about fashion or dating. She only cared about her studies and writing.
        
        She then transferred to the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. At this school Lee helped with the school's newspaper.
        
        She joined a law program at the school, but she disliked it. This is when she realized that her true calling was writing. So she went to the University of Oxford in England over the summer as an exchange student.
        
        She dropped out after one semester to pursue being a writer.

- - - - Then she befriended a broadway composer and lyricist Michael Martin Brown. In 1956 Lee received a christmas present from Brown. This gift was to support her for a year so that she could focus on writing full time. So she quit her job and focused on writing.
        
        With this time she worked on writing her book To Kill a Mockingbird.
