The Marrow Thieves
Characters
Frenchie
Frenchie is a very protective guy, always thinking about his family first. He would do anything for them. He has a very big attachement to the stories. He's really interested them, always there to learn more about his past. He wants to take the best decisions for everyone, but sometimes he makes his decisions too impulsively. Even if he doesn't want to show it, he's a very sensitive guy. It's hard for him to live without his ''real'' family. He miss them alot. He's in love with Rose but doesn't really know how to manage it.
Rose
Rose is a rebel girls. She didn't have the best parents, but it doesn't seem to bother her. She likes to show that she's a strong independent girl, but she also have a soft side, like when she's with Frenchie or when she's taking care of Riri. I think that feminism is a big value of her. To her eyes, women have a big impact in the group.
Riri
Riri is the youth of the group. She represents the innocence and the life. Because of her, the teenagers of the group devlopped acaring side. Saddly, she dies one night because of some traitos. She left the whole group in mourning. They know have a whole in their hearts.
Minerva
Minerva is the memory of the group, the real treasure. She has the whole baggage of the past. She can set the memory in perpuity. She can be hard to travel, but she's irreplaceable.
Miig
Miig is like a teacher. He learns everything to everyone. He's the chef of the group and everyone is happy with it. It's because of him if the group can go this far. He's very intelligent, but he's getting tired. He lives with a lot of pain from the past, but he's perfectly hiding it to keep positivity through the group. He's always telling the right thing comfort anyone that needs it.
Wab
Wab is a little like the mom of the group. She likes to take care of the youngest and cooking. She's living with big traumas form her past. The story from her scar is terrible and no one deserves to live these events. Even if she can have breakdown, she's very strong.
Slopper
Slopper is the second youngest of the group. I thinks he's sad and miss Riri but he doesn't want to show it that much to the group because he doesn't want to harm them
Tree and Zheegwon
The twins are dependent to eachother. They have to take care of eachother to advance through their day. They would not be able to live one without the other. They lived everything: even the traumatizing events togheter and that's why they're so close.
Chi-boy
Chi-boy is a big part of the group. He represents the protection. He's kind of an inpiration for Frenchie. Frenchie wants to have the trust Miig has in Chi-Boy.
Themes
Story
Stories are a very important part of the book. For the natives, it's gifts from the past. It's a part of who they are. For them, it's a privilege to be able to know what happen to their ancestors. It's also a good way to distract themselves of the hard days they're living.
Dreams
It's because of dreams that the natives are living this life. For the characters, dreaming is a way to reconnect with their past and their lost lovers. Because of them, they have hope. That's why it's worth living like this: they want to save their history.
Environnement
For the environnement, I think the author is trying to ''warn'' us about our futur. By reading the story, we can really feel how the characters are living a bad life because of the climate changes. I think it's a good way of telling us to change the way we live to help and save the Earth. We have to take care of it if we want it to take care of us. Otherwise, dangerous things could happen.
Settings
The book is taking place in a dystopian world where their's very bad climate conditions. I think that because it talks about a futur not far from our's it connects us more to the book. Even if it's a fictionnal book, I think we can all agree that we're going in this direction.
Plot
I think the major plot is Riri's death. The group felt guilty ans so sad for her death, but I think it got them closer.
