Natural selection explains how life started
All living things share a common ancestor
In a family, there are differences, this is known as variation
Organisms that fit their environment the best will survive and reproduce
Natural Selection, also know as survival of the fittest, causes evolution
Humans and monkeys share a common ancestor but did not come from each other
Human Evolution
Humans are part of the Primates group
Humans and Apes share a common ancestor
Paleontologists have found fossils of past humans
The oldest human fossil was found in Africa
Modern humans are homo sapiens which means wise humans
Humans evolved to have larger brains, taller bodies, use tools, and form communities.
Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin developed the modern Theory of Evolution
While traveling, he studied many plants and animals
He observed that the animals were different, based on their environment
he disagreed with other scientists because he thought evolution takes a very long time to happen
He wrote a book called "The Origin of Species"
The Theory of Evolution is supported by a lot of evidence such a genetics and heredity
Fossils
Fossils are the remains of things that died long ago and must have a quick burial
there are different types of fossils such as body, trace, mold, and cast
Oil, gas, and coal comes from fossils aka fossil fuels
Over millions of years, dead plants were compressed into coal
The fossils record is incomplete because not everything becomes a fossil.
Fossils tell us about earth's history and it's living things.

Living things adapt to meet their needs
Plants have various adaptations, such as roots underground
Plants adapt to get more sunlight and water
Plants adapt to get nutrients from either the soil or animals
Plants adapt to reproduce by using pollen
Plants have evolved by suing a number of adaptations

The Flu is caused by the Influenza viruses
The Flu can cause symptoms, such as fever
Before advanced medicine, the Spanish Flu killed a lot of people
Vaccines have been developed to help people fight off viruses
Viruses can have different strands, versions, based on their genes
Viruses can mutate and evolve
