Evolution/ human family tree
Flu and Flu vaccine
we have developed vaccines to fight off viruses
viruses have different strains ( versions ) based on their genes
before the development of medicines the Spanish flu killed many people
the flu can cause symptoms such as a fever
viruses can mutate and evolve
The flu is caused by the influenza virus
Plant adaptations (Jr)
plants adapt to get sunlight by growing towards the sun
plants adapt to get food by using soil animals or other plants
plants adapt to get water by having roots underground
plants reproduce by spreading their seeds (pollen)
living things need to adapt to meet their needs
charles darwin
while Travelling, he studied many plants and animals
he observed that the animals were different depending on they're environment
Charles Darwin developed the theory of evolution
he disagreed with other scientists, because he thought evolution takes a long time to happen
he wrote a book called the "origin of species"
the theory of evolution is supported by lots of evidence
extinction
mass extinction is when a large number of species dies quickly
along with climate change, evolutionary pressures can lead to extinction
99 percent of species on earth have gone extinct
human activities can cause extinction which can affect us in a negative way
extinction is when a whole species dies out
about 65 million years ago, dinosaurs went extinct
natural selection
natural selection explains how evolution started
Charles Darwin learnt that all living things share a common ancestor
there are differences in a family ( variations )
organisms that fit their environment the best will survive and reproduce
the natural selection is the same thing as the survival of the fittest
natural selection causes evolution
fossils
not everything becomes a fossil, which is why . the fossil record is incomplete
there are different types of fossils, such as body, trace, mold, and cast
oil, gas and coal come from fossils (fossil fuels)
a fossil is the remains of something that died long ago
over millions of years dead plants were compressed to form coal
fossils tell us about earths history
human evolution
humans are part of the primate group
paleontologists have found fossils of past humans
humans and apes share a common ancestor
the oldest human fossil was found in africa
modern humans are homo sapiens ( wise human )
humans evolved to have larger brains, become taller, use tools, and create communities
