Natural selection explains how live started
Charles Darwen learned that all different bird came from one bird
In a species there can be different types
Organisms that fit there environment the best will survive and reproduce
Natural selection is the same thing as survival of the fitter
Human Evolution
Humans belong to the group of primates
Because of evolution, humans share common ancestor with apes.
Paleontologists have found fossils of past humans
The oldest human fossil was found in Africa
Humans adapted to have larger brains for hunting and working together.
Modern humans are homo sapiens (wise)
Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin developed the modern theory of evouloution
while he was traveling, he studied many plants and animals.
On the island he observed that the birds beaks were different, depending on their environment
He disagreed with other scientists because he believed that evolution takes a long time to happen.
the theory of evolution is supported by lots of evidence including genetics and heredity
he wrote a book called the origin of species

Living things need to adapt to meet their needs
plants adapt to get sunlight by growing towards the sun
plants adapt to get water by having roots underground
plants adapt to reproduce by spreading their seeds (pollen)
plants adapt to get nutrients (food) by using soil, animals, or other plants

Evolutionary pressure can also cause the extinction of species
99% of species that lived on Earth are gone
human activities can cause extinction which would negatively impact us
Australopithecus group
This is a group of early humans. they walked upright on a regular basis but they still climbed trees.
Homo group
the species in this group has large brains and used tools. members in this group first expand beyond Africa.
Paranthropus group
Big teeth and powerful jaws included in this group. They feed on a variety of foods.
