Drexel University
What are my career goals and how will Drexel's program help me achieve these goals?
My overall goal is to be a BCBA
Drexel is BACB approved --> will give me the steps I need to pass the exam
I want to create successful behavior plans for children with autism and the concentration in ASD will help me understand that better
I really want more hands-on work with children with ASD in the eyes of being a BCBA
The main thing I want to do actually beside become a BCBA is to help people --> I want to work with parents closely to the best of my ability and have the ability to analyze my clients in a way where I understand what behavior plan would best mitigate the behavior we are trying to decrease.
Why I'm interested in this field
From the moment I entered my undergrad studies at state, i had my heart set on being a clinical therapist for children.
-it wasn't until my 3rd year that I was introduced to the field of Applied Bheavior Analysis.
-I've always wanted a field where I can help people
I soon realized that the work I am doing with these kids is genuinely changing their lives and I started to absolutely love the feeling I get when I see my kids progress throughout the treatment plan.
Although ABA doesn't seem like a lot, i think it genuinely changes children's lives and I love to incorporate NET opporutnities in my sessions to enhance children's development through the natural environment.
I fell in love with the field as soon as I met with my first kid --> talk about MY and how his sessions were extremely difficult, I never worked with kids with Autism
Why im interested in attending the program at Drexel
Drexel approach: relies on real-world experiences --> includes a practicum that allows for hands-on learning in the field.
I'm a hands-on learner and I really love being in the ABA setting
Drexel offers a concentration in ASD --> I really like that because I have grown to love working with kids with ASD.
How does this program relate to my previous education and/or work experience?
I am currently a behavior technician.
I have a close relationship with my BCBA and she has become a mentor to me--> I love asking questions about the kids I work with and learn more about what goes into their behavior plans
I have learned quite a bit about ABA therapy from my year and a half of experience and I have this urge to become a leader in dictating a child's behavior plans and to further help them.
GB: his behaviors don't always have clear antecedents, I want to find the cause / make treatments in order to help parents and child's overall well being
