IDENTIFICATION OF STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES Education Process…
-
Step 3
Student is refereed to the school counselor for further support and a signed consent from the parents at this point is a requirement.
Parents, class teacher, SST teacher, administrators and school counsellor team up to design a successful IEP with goals based on the student's needs.
-
-
Student just needs basic one- on- one on a weekly basis and continues to see the SST teacher for as long as he/she needs.
-
Step 2
The SPED teacher starts pulling the student out to her/his classroom in order to be able to decide on the necessary measures needed to be taken, including the assessments ,the extent of the problem and the range of solutions or help available at school to offer.
Screenings are administered to identify the student's strengths and weaknesses and identify his/her learning challenges.
Data from repeated assessments of achievement (e.g., progress monitoring) should be used to make further educational decisions such as changes to goals, instruction and/or services, as well as the decision to refer a student for an individual
evaluation( NYED, 2013).
