codification
the three features of a codified constitution is that it should be written in a single document, and written in one moment of history and the constitutional laws must be distinct from each other laws.
entrenchment
The UK cant entrench constitutional principles as the sovereignty of parliament asserts that each individual cannot be bound by its predecessor nor can it bind its successors. constitutional change can happen in 2 days with a statute. an example of this is when the UK parliament passed the human rights act 1998 which used a simple Act of Parliament
is a device that safeguards the constitution from short term ammendments. any proposed constitution change must go through 2 tests: 1) widespread popular support for it 2) that its in the long-term interest of the country.
sovereignty
power should not be confused with legal sovereignty . power is flexible it can be added or removed while the distribution of sovereignty is usually fixed by constitutions
federal
sovereignty is divided between a cental body anf other regions. the only way to change the distibution of sovereignty is to ammend the constitution.E.G: USA, Germany, Russia, canada
unitary
in a unitary constitution sovereignty lies in one place E.G: UK, France, Spain,China
