Cloud Storage
-
Cloud storage services work as a network of connected data servers collectively used to share and access your files across devices. Cloud storage providers own and maintain the offsite servers that make up this network at their data centers.
Advantages: You can access it from anywhere, better bandwidth, emergency backup plan.
Disadvantages: Needs internet connection, might have bandwidth allowance, security.
HDD
-
Each disk has multiple concentric circles called tracks. Each track is split up into sectors which contain magnetic 0's and 1's. A mechanical arm reads and writes the data on the disk whilst it spins.

Optical Disk
-
Pits and lands are burnt into a spiral track on the disk by a laser to store data, and to read it the laser passes over the pits and lands and calculates the level of reflection is measured. This is read as 0's and 1's.
Advantages: Cheap and portable, takes up little space.
Disadvantages: Less storage, easily damaged, slow.
SSD
-
Electric current forces electrons through a barrier to write a 1 or a 0. They stay there until flashed into another position.
Advantages: Durable, fast, small, no noise.
Disadvantages: Expensive, less storage than HDD
