Differentiation for Students based on preassessment data. Students were given a picture of objects in a room and asked to circle accurate sentences using prepositions of place to describe their physical locations in French, including use of household vocabulary words.
The 5 students who answered most, including the most difficult, of the pre-assessment questions correctly
Task 1 - Partners will create oral clues for each other based on the image from the preassessment. Ex. This object is on the blue chair. Answer - Teddy Bear
Task 2 - Students will get a bank of pictures describing all of the unit's prepositions of place with the English and French vocabulary and work together to review the same picture and create sentences.
Task 3 - Partners will draw pictures with clues using the limited amount of Prepositions of Place used by the majority of the class (the first three for the unit). The other 17 students will use these drawings and clues as an activity next week.
Tracking - Task 2 sentences will be collected and reviewed as an entire class the next day. Task 3 activity drawings will be collected and assessed as viable and quality or not, and used for the next class as an activity. Task 1 will be tracked by having teacher conversation and check-in with the 5 students, pair by pair. Teacher should be making observations and notes about who still needs practice.
The 12 students who have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score, but need to develop higher order thinking skills
Task 1 - Students will get a bank of pictures describing limited prepositions of place with the English and French vocabulary and work together to review the same picture and create simple descriptive sentences.
Task 2 - Partners will receive the same image from the preassessment and use French to describe where an object is. The partner will then point to that object in the image.
Tracking - Task 1 sentences will be collected and reviewed as an entire class the next day. Task 2 will be tracked by having teacher conversation and check-in with the 12 students, pair by pair. Teacher should be making observations and notes about who still needs practice.
The 5 students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic, of which 3 are struggling with language and are at different reading levels and 2 students who have little to no comprehension of the the topic and need to be tested further for special needs

For both groups, the teacher will spend the first fifteen minutes of the class going through the topic in depth. This will include concept of why prepositions of place are useful in story telling and descriptive language.
Tracking - Students will be assessed next class with Exit Slips asking them to draw a given sentence (Ex. The ball is in the backpack.). Students will be assessed with the whole class by using a slideshow of different objects, and students participating to describe them.
