Week 4 (Brain bulges over the
orophayngeal membrane and
developing heart…
Week 4
-
Branchial arch formation begins (according to google)
- neural crest cells carry information and gene expression here
Pouches are off the arch itself
- There are 4 arches, 4 pouches and 4 grooves
- 4 distinct structures on each level
- each segment is getting cartilage, muscles, arteries and nerves
1st pouch:
- bulging out of the foregut
- the Tympanic membrane
2nd arch:
- muscles of facial expression
-
(Day 27)
- nasal placodes are about to develop
- Odontogenic epithelium can be identified
(aka primary epitheilial band) derived from ectoderm
- BUCCOPHARYNGEAL MEMBRANE RUPTURES
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
Branchial apparatus formation
- consists of branchial arches, branchial grooves, membranes and pharyngeal pouches
- with the migration of neural crest cells to special brachial region they start to proliferate
-
-
-
Week 5
Day 34
-
Intermaxillary Segment: formed by the fusion of the medial nasal processes and extends into the stomodeum
-
-
-
-
-
Medial nasal processes and frontal nasal process gives rise to the middle portion of the upper lip, anterior portion of the maxilla and primary palate
-
-
-
-
-
Foregut will form the primitive pharynx, the future oral portion of the throat (oropharynx)
-
Palate begins to form (primary???)
- fusion of medial nasal process forms the nasal septum (occurs at same time as primary palate formation)
-
-
-
-
-
Week 7-8
-
-
-
Cleft palate
- result of incomplete fusion of palatal shelves and primary palate
- occurs in 1:2500 live births
-
-
Week 4-5
Day 28
-
Localized thickening develops within
the ectoderm of the frontal prominence just
rostral (anterior) to the opening of the stomatodeum
- thickenings are the olfactorary placodes or nasal placodes
-
Week 6
-
Origins of the Secondary Palate
- when the palatal shelves arise from the Mx process bilaterally (vertical)
- forms the posterior 2/3 of hard palate
- includes the canines, premolars, molars, soft palate and uvula
Week 8
-
- shelves elevate to a horizontal position
Week 3
-
Neural Crest cells:
- develop from neuroectoderm
- migrate from neural crest cells and disperse within the mesenchyme
- cells are involved in dental arches and tooth formation
- migrate to the 1st branchial arch
-
