Characters of Romeo and Juliet
Main Characters
Romeo
Romeo is one of the Main Characters of the story he is part of the Montague family son and heir of Montague and Lady Montague. Romeo is a handsome and inteligente guy who falls in love in the story. The moment he meets Juliet he falls in love and the story turns into Romeo proving his love for her.
Juilet
Juliet is one of the Main Characters of the story she is part of the Capulet family and daughter of Capulet and Lady Capulet. Juliet is a beautiful girl but she is 13 years old. Her family pressures her to marry you Paris but she refuses because she is fully in love with Romeo. This love made her grow up quickly. She is very brave as she goes in a secret relationship with Romeo.

Friar Lawrence
Friar Lawrence is a Franciscan friar friend of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence always has a plan and helps them go on with their relationship. He secretly marries them in an intent to bring peace in Verona.
Prince Escalus
The Prince of Verona. A kinsman of Mercutio and Paris. As the seat of political power in Verona, he is concerned about maintaining the public peace at all costs.
Friar John
He is a Franciscan friar that Friar Lawrence ask to take the news of the fake death to Romeo but he is held in quarantine house and isn't able to reach Romeo.
The Apothecary
An apothecary in Mantua. Had he been wealthier, he might have been able to afford to value his morals more than money, and refused to sell poison to Romeo.
Montague Characters
Mercutio
He is a kinsman to the Prince and a close friend of Romeo. Mercutio is a very elaborated character with many characteristics. He is very fashionable in his vocabulary and in the book. He thinks that Romeo's ideas of love are tiresome and wants to convince him it is just sexual attraction.
Montague
Romeo’s father, the patriarch of the Montague clan and bitter enemy of Capulet. At the beginning of the play, he is chiefly concerned about Romeo’s melancholy.
Lady Montague
Romeo’s mother, Montague’s wife. She dies of grief after Romeo is exiled from Verona.
Benvolio
Montague's nephew and Romeo's cousin and thoughtful friend.. He makes many efforts to stop violence in multiple scenes.
Abram
Montague’s servant, who fights with Sampson and Gregory in the first scene of the play.
Balthazar
Romeo’s dedicated servant, who brings Romeo the news of Juliet’s death, unaware that her death is a ruse.
Capulet Characters
Tybalt
Tybalt is a Capulet and Juliet's cousin. He becomes aggressive and violent and uses his sword a lot.
Nurse
She is Juliet's Nurse and has cared for her for her entire life. She is a sentimental character and talks a lot to Juliet about her love for Romeo.
Capulet
The patriarch of the Capulet family and father of Juliet. He is enemy for unexplainable reasons of Montague. He does not agree with the feelings of her daughter.
Lady Capulet
Mother of Juliet and wife of Capulet she is eager to se her daughter marry as she did when she was young.
Paris
A kinsman of the prince that is interested in marrying Juliet and has the support of the Capulet.
Sampson
Servant of the Capulet who hates the Montague family like their master and get into fights with them.
Gregory
Servant of the Capulet who hates the Montague family like their master and get into fights with them.
Peter
A Capulet servant who invites guests to Capulet’s feast and escorts the Nurse to meet with Romeo. He is illiterate, and a bad singer.
