Greetings/Introduction to Lesson (Pre Assessment (Journey of Light)),…

- - - - Students will present their hypothesis, experiment, findings and conclusion to the class. They will be instructing the class on the concept of shadows, how they are formed and how they can be manipulated. Because this experiment is entirely visual based, in that students can see the light and objects effect on the shadow, it will be easy to understand for all students.
        
        Jigsaw Teaching Strategy: Students work in 7 heterogenous groupings, using iPads to research 1 of the 7 wavelengths of light including its frequency, wavelength, energy levels, how its used in daily life, etc. Students will then be split up in groups of 7 to share the information they've learned about their one type of light with the other students who studied another type. In this way, the teacher can use their research methods and presentation of information to others in the second grouping as a formative assessment of their understanding.
        
        Summary and Exit Ticket
- - - - Students will review and discuss the questions they answered incorrectly, while also discovering the correct answers.
- - - - Teacher will check on and advise students on their experiment and how best to present their findings to the class.
        
        Their presentation serves as a formative assessment to the teacher for how well the higher achieving students are learning. Depending on how they've chosen to conduct and prove their hypothesis will inform the teacher of their progress.
        
        Teacher rotates throughout the small groups and then the larger jigsaw groups, helping the ELL and lower achieving students as needed. The goal is that these students will learn the necessary information in their small groups from their peers and be prepared, knowing that they must present this information later. Teacher can help struggling students by preparing art materials for visual representation alternative.
        
        Teacher prepares an exit ticket or summative activity to review information covered. Simplified exit ticket alternatives can be available for ELL or lower achieving students who need it including photos and/or spaces for drawing.
