The 5 students who answered most, including the most difficult, of the pre-assessment questions correctly.
Kahn Academy lessons I will assign and quiz on specific shape groups such as quadrilaterals.
Extensions such as "Break a Shape" and "Shape Searches".
STEM cards with Geometric Challenges
Tactile work such as toothpicks and marshmallows to create 2D shapes.
Assessment for Tracking: Kahn Academy quizzes and check in by teachers on extensions and creative work.
The 12 students who have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score, but need to develop higher order thinking skills.
Math Centres lessons and follow-up games on APPS and learning platforms such as Splash Math and IXL.
Geoboards and STEM challenges
Assessment for Tracking: IXL and Splash Math allows me to see their progress on the back end of the website. I can check how they did on the quiz etc. I can also monitor their creative work as they complete it.
The 5 students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic, of which 3 are struggling with language and are at different reading levels and 2 students who have little to no comprehension of the the topic and need to be tested further for special needs.
All hands on material and concrete manipulatives that the other two groups are using as creative work will be used as lesson materials for this group so they can be tactile.
Nomenclature Geometry Books and Whiteboard work. They will also have simple worksheets with matching etc that they will do in pairs.
We will use a lot of Montessori Materials such as the stick box, the geometric cabinet, nomenclature cards, command cards and constructive triangle boxes.
3 struggling with language and are at different reading levels.
Geometry Quizlet to review the units vocabulary and allows them to see vocabulary alongside images with easy definitions. Use of the listening function to hear the correct pronunciation.
Assess by checking the progress on Quizlet in the backend. Also 1-to-1 check ins asking questions verbally to make sure they are on the right track.
2 who have little to no comprehension and need to be tested further for special needs.
Bingo and Splash Math games.
I will first model the games myself and then monitor their play and be there to help them work through activities. If we still cannot make progress I will contact my learning support specialist to have them begin the process to create an Individual Learning Plan and we will take a closer look at the student in all areas to see where else they may not be meeting their grade level goals.
To continue to assess them throughout the unit there will be 1-on-1 check ins with myself and a learning specialist with individualized assessments (verbally, with visual cues) paired with parent meetings, and weekly team meetings to discuss how the ILP is going. I will also have self assessments for these students to see what information they can give me themselves.
