Pedro Alvarado

The natives were fascinated by Alvarado's appearance and nicknamed him "Tonatiuh," which was the name of the Aztec Sun God.
On 1520, Cortés left Alvarado in charge in Tenochtitlan with about 160 Europeans.

The only major conquistador to take part in the conquests of the Aztecs, Maya, and Inca.
Cortés gave a girl to Alvarado, his top lieutenant. She was promptly baptized, and she eventually bore three children to Alvarado, although they never formally married.

Panfilo de Narvaez
Narvaez was born in Valladolid, Spain in about 1478.

One of his expeditions, after a terrible huricane, landed on the west coast of Florida, near Tampa Bay in April 1528, claiming the land for Spain

Francisco Pizarro
Was born on 1475 on Trujillo, Extremadura, Castile from Spain and died on June 26, 1541, Lima now Peru.

Francisco de Orellana

In 1540, Gonzalo began outfitting an expedition that would set out from Quito and head east in the hopes of locating El Dorado or any other rich native civilization.
Orellana kept heading east, discovering the Amazon River and making his way to the Atlantic Ocean
Sometime in late 1546, Orellana was scouting an area with some of his remaining men when they were attacked by natives.
Orellana came to the New World while still a young man and met with Pizarro's 1832 expedition to Peru

Orellana is best remembered today as an explorer, but that was never his goal.

Diego de Almagro
Returning to Peru, he went to war with Pizarro, lost, and was executed.
Almagro rushed back, get overed the insurection, and imprisoned Pizarro’s two brothers Hernando and Alonso for having refused to obey his orders during the fighting.
During his absence, Indians in Peru rebelled and besieged the Spanish fortress of Cuzco
In 1534 King Charles I of Spain, sent Almagro to assist in the conquest of what is now Chile
Almagro and Pizarro became joint captains general of those conquests, which the Spaniards called New Castile.
Francisco Pizarro, led the expedition that conquered the Inca empire in what is now Peru.

Vasco Nunez de Valvoa
Believed of nobleman father, but the family was not wealthy

Balboa was born in 1475 in Jerez de los Caballeros, a town in the impoverished Extremadura region of Spain
Balboa claimed the ocean and all of its shores for Spain, opening the conquest along South America.
n 1513, while leading an expedition in search of gold, he sighted the Pacific Ocean.
He helped establish the first stable settlement on the South American continent at Darién, on the coast of the Isthmus of Panama.
Gonzalo Pizarro
The king of Spain had promulgated new laws restricting the privileges of the conquistadores and protecting the rights of the Indians.
Defeated and captured by de la Gasca on April 9 of that year, Pizarro was executed the following day.
Pizarro learned that his half brother Francisco had been assassinated in 1541 and that he had been ordered to dismiss his men.
By 1542, Gonzalo was the last of the Pizarro brothers in Peru
Soldier and Spanish conquistador, born in Trujillo in 1513
Gonzalo de Sandoval
After the conquest, Sandoval was richly rewarded with lands and gold but died young of an illness.
When Cortes was in a pinch, he turned to Sandoval.
