Minerva was the oldest of the group. "She was feeding her new grandson when the Recruiters busted into her home. They took the baby, raped her, and left her for dead." (p.98) She didn't talk, and when she did it was in bursts accompanied by laughter and maybe a scream or two. She was a close observer and she knew the language very well. During the day, she would stay at the temporary camp with the Homesteaders and teach them a little about the language. Even if the Homesteaders sometimes felt like they were stuck with her, she was still loved and appreciated. Since she was really old, Wab had to take care of her and when they had to run, she would have to be transported in the cart or carried on Miig or Chi-Boy's back. Minerva would make medicine and fed it to the family because she is scared and nervous of them getting sick since one winter she lost a baby from cough that was part of the group. One night, she demanded to sleep downstairs in the barn. During the night she removed the ladder so that her family was safe and she was taken by the recruiters. She even smiled when they took her because she was in peace with her plan to save the people that she loves.
