1980s
This was the decade of Ronald reagen and the conservative USA. The country was in a cold war with the SOviet union and supported anti-communist movements around the globe.
Berlin Wall was a symbol of the Iron curtain that seperated the democratic western countries from the communist countries of Eastern Europe throughout the cold war.
However in 1989 the Berlin wall felt and the cold war came to an end, leaving USA as the only superpower left in the world. The 80s will also be remembered as the decade of MTV and the music viedeo, and pop icons like Madonna and Michael Jackson.
1990s
In 1991 there was a short war in the Middle east, called operation desert storm. The aim of this operation whas to protect Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, which were major suppliers of oil to the USA.

The 21st century
On new years eve 1999, most of the western world was worried: whould there be a worldwide computer crash? The dreaded crash never happened, but events in 2001 changed the world. On september 11, 2001, four planes were hijacked and two of them crashed into the twin towers on Manhattan, one hit the pentagon and the last one missed its target and crashed.

Enviromental issues had become important and recession in the steel industry created problems in the industrialized areas of the Midwest. This area which previously was named the Steel belt, was now called the Rust Belt.
During this decade there was a large influx of immigrants from Asia, in the aftermath of the US defeat in Vietnam.
This was the era of the civil rights movements, the space race, the kennedys, the cold war, the vietnam war and the hippies.
The Vietnam war was a traumatic experience for the americans. Thousands of young men and women died far from home in a war they didnt understand.
In 1962 the Cuba missile crisis, the US was on the brink of water of starting a war with the Soviet Union. The soviets had placed nuclear missiles just 90 millises away from USA and Kennedy demanded to get them removed right away.

In 1964 discrimination was banned, segregation ended because of the civil rights act.

The 1920s brought the automobile, the telephone, electricity, the motion picture and more industrial growth.

The Jim Craw laws

These were strict laws for how you could work, where you could work, and for how much compensation.
These laws appeared throughout the South as a legal way to put black citizens into the society and take away there votes, and to control where they were and how they traveled.

Rosa Parks
A black woman who didnt want to give up her busseat to a white man, this lead to her being arrested and this started the civil right movements, this was in 1855-56
Martin Luther King held a speach on the steps of the lincoln memorial, this was a chance to reach out to both white and black people, he had prepared a speech but instead he improvised and told everyone about his dream

USA had decided not to get involved in WW2. However when Pearl Harbor got attacked by the japanese, the USA entered the war on the side of the allies.
After WW2, Europe was in ruins but USA was intact because there had been no fighting at USAs mainland.
1950s
American goods were all over the wold and the living situation for most of the americans was really good.
The country had become one of the two superpowers and started the Cold war together with the Soviet Union, the Cold unfortunately lasted for decades.
Rock and Roll music and teenage idols like Dean James and Elvis Presley created a new youth culture as well.
