Most activities will be teacher guided for the first few weeks until teacher feels they are ready for independent work.
Flash cards with present and past simple verbs matching activity.
Simplified past tense questions focusing on the same verbs: Eg: ate \ drank \ went (max of 7)
Differentiated worksheet with fill in the blank from word choices given.
Past tense literature given at level in guided reading groups with scaffolded responses focusing on past tense.
Teacher will ask for students to identify past tense verbs in the book as we read through it.
For sentence production, teacher will supply a list of past tense verbs to choose from and offer partial complition of sentences that students must complete.
Basic descriptions of events in single sentence form.

Guided reading groups at level with comprehension check questions that require some open ended answers and some guided answers.
Expand use of past tense verbs to list of 20.
Some activities will be teacher leand and other independent.
Flash card matching game as independent activity. Extention: Students write sentences on small white boards or in their grammar notebooks using the past tense verbs from the activity.
Differntiated worksheets with less scaffolding, more difficult vocabulary, wider range of verbs.
Asked to create short dramas using past tense as a literature response or PYP unit project to express what they have investigated.
Some choices given (3) for responses: Eg: posters, brochures, dramas with scaffolded instruction. For example: classify the verbs according to ending.

Expanded use of verbs to 50 plus
Independent reading activities with open ended questions to elicit opinion sentences using Past Simple Tense.
Most activities will be independent with the exception of a few.
Students are given a tic tac toe board with 9 choices for response activities.
Think-Pair-Share activities
Peer teaching with some teacher support
Story writing with paragraphs\ beginning-middle-end
Expansion into other outcomes such as prepositions of tme\place layered into instruction.
Weekly Activities naturally differntiated for all students.
Spelling quiz responses. Use words from your differentiated spelling quiz to make a past tense sentence.
Read at least 2 books form either the Bug Club online platform at tested level by your teacher or from the Home Reading Program at the color band you were assigned.
Checking In: Each lesson starts with 5 minutes on the carpet in a circle.
