Behavior: Difficulty staying still during whole group activity (Circle time)
Tier 1
Break, Moving Position in Class
Why Intervene: Takes the mind of what is hindering students. Can improve motivation and effort.
When Intervene: When one, two or more students begin to get distracted or simply are annoying each other.
How to Intervene: Getting children to swap seats will give them the movement they might need at that moment. Move children away form distractions
Alternative Method: Having that student complete an extra task.
Tier 2
Structured Breaks
Why Intervene: Provides child with a time to cool down. It will help children with difficulty focusing.
When Intervene: When the child's behavior is beginning to get disruptive in the learning environment. When a child begins to appear tired or bored.
How to Intervene: Identify with the child a safe place for him or her to take a break. Praising the child when he or she has come back successfully from a break.
Alternative Method: A child's break can be less formal by simply adding a task like getting a snack.
Tier 3
Reward System
Why Intervene: Provides the child with positive feedback and praise. Provides an incentive to aiming for the best behavior.
When to Intervene: When a child's starts to show chronic behavior problems. When the child starts to appear oppositional and defiant.
How to Intervene: Reward System
"Token Economy"- when a child starts to receive tokens as a reward for predetermined goals.
Earning Privileges for comepleting predetermined goals.
Alternative Method: Creating certificate awards for the child completing of predetermined goals.
