Refers to any trash or garbage that consists of everyday items that we use and then throw away. For example: product packaging, food scraps, furniture, bottles, appliances, newspapers, among many others. All of this waste comes specifically from homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses.
This type of waste is generally deposited into landfills, where the trash is compacted and piled together, or used for energy recovery, which is the conversion of non-organic materials into usable heat, fuel or electricity.
Americans have long been known to be great producers of Municipal Solid Waste, and it was determined that the country is generally producing around 30% of the world's total waste, meanwhile it is only home to 4% of the entire population of the planet.
