Connections
I remeber learing about individualistic and collectivistic cultures before in a psychology class I have taken in the past. A example video we watched was interviews from athletes who won a medal in the Olympics and there response to in. In Asian cultures they siad it was because of their coaches while the American athlete said it is because she worked hard.
With the definition of intersectionality, I think that it is very true in myself. I am Asian but has lived in North America for most of my life. I feel like I am influenced by both of the culteral identities I live in.
- A concept in this chapter that intrigues me is about low-context culture and high-context culture. I knew about how different cultures are individualistic and collectivistic but not about how in cultures individuals tend to bring up conflict towards one another in a different way.
- A concept that I am still confused about in this chapter is about salience. The example given in the textbook of what has little to no salience confused me. I think I need to understand the word and definition better to understand.
