Vasco Ñunez de Balboa
In 1509, Balboa escapes his creditors by stowing away on a voyage to Colombia.
1514, Balboa returns to Santa María and announces his discoveries.
1511, Balboa becomes the governor of Darién.
In 1513,Balboa sails for the narrowest part of the isthmus.

Hernàn Cortès
- He followed the route of grijalva and landed in Veracruz in 1519 and founded the Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz.

- He participated in the conquest of Cuba.
- Pedro de Alvarado arrived at Santo Domingo, on Hispaniola where he met Hernan Cortes who was serving as a public scribe.
- 1523 Alvarado had conquered the Quiché and Cakchiquel of Guatemala.

Lope de Aguirre
1.He arrived in Peru and took part in the Spanish suppression of Indian rebellions and in the wars that continually broke out between the Spanish conquerors.
- Aguirre incited a rebellion in which Ursúa was killed.
3.He joined an expedition led by Pedro de Ursúa to find the legendary kingdom of Eldorado, which was thought to be located at the headwaters of the Amazon River.
- He died on July 4, 1541 in guadalajara .

Pánfilo de Narvaez
- He took all his men and went on to conquer the Aztec Empire.
- He joined the expedition to Cuba lead by Diego Velazquez de Cuellar.
- He was defeated by Cortes and he was captured and imprisoned in Vera Cruz.
- He leaves spain from Cadiz with 300 men.
- He was tortured in order to force him to reveal the location of the 'treasure' and his nose was cut off .

Diego de Almagro
- He arrived in South America in 1524 and, with his intimate friend Francisco Pizarro, led the expedition that conquered the Inca empire in what is now Peru.
- He defeated one Pizarrist army at the Abancay River but was then defeated and captured by Hernando Pizarro at the battle of Las Salinas near Cuzco.
- Almagro joined him at Cajamarca early in 1533 shortly before the Spaniards executed Sapa Inca Atahualpa.
- Almagro was delayed several months but then followed the present Colombian coast to a point near modern Buenaventura. Unable to locate Pizarro, he returned to the Isthmus to find him already there.
