Level textures & colours
In-game UI
The In-game UI will be made in mind of the players so that it doesn't affect the playing style nor the ability of the player, most UI's are made to be transparent and small yet at the same time recognisable to the player.
Transparency

For my game due to it's nature and style I feel that a futuristic type UI HUD will suit my game the best and still fit to the theme of the game.
Colour scheme of HUD
Due to the fact my HUD will be transparent, but adjustable to the players liking, I'll have to think of abiding colours that look well together in full opacity and low opacity, changing the opacity of the HUD can affect what the colours look like on the HUD so i have to bare this in mind.
Colours
I feel that due to the theme of my game, bright vibrant colours would work really well together and could give of more of a neon vibe that would reinforce the theme of cyberpunk.
I'm mainly looking for combo colours that work really well together, specifically eye catching vibrant colours that will help to make the HUD pop out without being too much of a distraction.

HUD textures
When it comes to textures in HUD you don't want to go over board as it wont look very good and could dampen the overall look of the HUD as well as disturb the colour scheme.
However When it comes to adding textures to the HUD the best way to amplify the general look of the HUD and make it look even more better is to add very subtle textures in certain areas which could have a greater overall effect
Level backgrounds
Background images
When it comes to the background of any platform game, they would normally have something in correspondence to the theme or something that suits the level of the game.
Due to the nature and them of my game as well as the overall game mechanics of my game I have to think about a suiting background environment that makes the platform game become a bigger part of what it is and make it more immersive.
The main purpose of any background environment in any game is to try and immerse the player even more by making them feel as if they are in that environment themselves.
For my game due to the fact of it be fitted around the idea of players battling to the death in an arena, it would be most suiting to have a background image that puts the players in the immersive position that there in an arena, the arena itself will have to fit to the theme of the game as well by being a futuristic type arena.
Background colour scheme
Colours of the background shouldn't be too bright or colourful, in fact having more dull colours for the backgrounds could massively benefit the game as it wouldn't be a distracting feature of the game.
Dark dull colours would work the best for the background, example colours;
Background textures
Due to the style of the game of which I want to enforce, the textures in the level backgrounds will be hand painted, this is because I want to ensue a cartoon style in my game and by having hard detail images in my game, it could make the game look like and odd mix.
The textures in the level background would serve to add more detail and help to make the backgrounds look more stylistic.
The type of textures I will be adding to the backgrounds would be minimal and would be hand painted in the necessary areas of which require a bit of detail.
Background visibility
Having a background that is too vibrant or overpowering to the main focus of the level (Platforms) could have a damaging affect on how the players play, so to avoid this the background visibility would be change ever so slightly.
This can be done by giving the background image a slight surface blur, this effect will also give the level depth and make the focus more on the players and the platform.
Level platforms
Textures
The platforms will be made in correspondence to the level arena type, therefore the textures as well as colours will change depending on the level itself, for example if the arena is based of a space arena then the platforms will be made to house some sort of space like texture etc.
Textures will be hand painted to fit with the stylistic theme of my game, textures will also be at a medium level, this is to prevent too much information being on a platform block.
The textures for the platform blocks should also have some variation to prevent a constant repeat of the same texture making the platforms look dull and messy.
Colours
I think it's important that the colours for the platforms stand out more than anything else in the level besides the players and pickups.
The platforms will most likely be cell shaded as it will work best with the type of style i'm going with.
Format
For the platforms of my levels I plan to make them somewhat isometric/orthographic as it will add an extra stylistic element to the game.
The platforms themselves will most likely be hand drawn in a two-dimensional format, but made to look three-dimensional.
The platforms will be made of individual blocks which will be able to be connected together, this allows for me to be able to make varying sized platforms.
HUD particles
Adding particles to the HUD can make it look that tiny bit more lively, it also adds that more appealing interactive affect as well as making it even more eye catching to the player.
However adding particles can be a negative for the UI as it may cause the HUD to become over run with too much information for the player to take in which in turn will distract the player from playing the game.
