How development can be measured
Gross domestic product per capita
Gross domestic product per capita is found by getting the total amount of goods and services produced in a country per year, divided by the amount of people living in the country.
The human development index
Calculated by bringing together life expectancy, the average number of years a citizen attends school, and the GNI per capita (gross national income) . This then creates a ration between 0 and 1. The closer to 1 the ratio is, the higher and better the human development level is
Measures of inequality
The most popular measurement of inequality is through the use of the Gini coefficient. It rates the country on a scale of 0 to 1, where 0 is perfect equality and 1 is perfect inequality
Indices of corruption
Corruption is measured using the corruption perception index. It is a score out of 100, which rates how much corruption is in the country. A higher score is better, and a lower score is worse
