Etiology/Pathophysiology

Interferes in with the inhibition of excitatory impulses, thus causing the patient to shake and
tremor uncontrollably.
Not considered hereditary however, genetic risk factors should be evaluated for their interplay with environment factors
The debilitation can cause self care deficits, falls, failure of body systems
Later as the disorder progresses mental deterioration can occur.

Rule out side effects of phenothiazines, reserpine, benzodiazepines, haloperidol
