Pre-Assessment for Differentiation in 10th Grade CHEMISTRY
The 5 students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic
For both of the group, they need activities that requires
hand-on activities.
Also, it would be easier for them to understand the material, when it is
verbal
rather than reading. Also it would be better to
visualize
it than to listen.
2 students who have
little to no comprehension of the topic
and need to be tested further for
special needs
Have little session where I can explain again for two students. Use more of diagrams, and drawing to help students' understanding.
Get a help from school' special Education instructor. What I can do to help them in class.
Help them to conduct experiments so students re not just memorizing the contents but can actually see it and experience it for themselves.
Give students a project where they can express their learning in their ways.
Assessment for tracking students' understanding: Check students work (project). This process has to happen frequently. So make sure students are on their track. Have one to one discussion to check students understanding. (Not necessary be in a testing format).
3 students are
struggling with language and are different reading levels
Show different videos that has lot of animations and graphics. This case students would not have to understand everything that presentation says, but would have better idea of how chemical bonding is forming based on the animation.
Help students to utilize Quizlet or make their flashcard, so students can be familiar with the terms that we use in class.
Give students homework of organizing confused or unknown words from the lesson make a list.
Provide the slides that I am going to use in class before hands so they can go over the slide earlier and look for the words that they don't know.
Tracking students' knowledge
: giving them vocab (Scientific terms) quiz at the beginning of the term. Also check their exit ticket grades so make sure to check if they understand the material correctly.
Do experiments that clearly shows the different properties of different types of bond.

Design a lab that can test the properties of different chemical bonding
Make explanation video (Or mentoring) : This will help students to review their knowledge. The best way to learn something is teach someone else.
Assessment for Tracking students' knowledge:
Make students to take Albert io Questions and review the experiments and the review that they made for the topic.
The 12 students who have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score, but need to develop higher order thinking skills
Watch the video from Khan academy and make their own note (study guide)
Review their knowledge by student lead based Nearpod.com
Conduct experiments and write a lab report. Understands how different types of bonds decide the chemical properties of compound.
Assessment for tracking students' understanding:
Check the result of Khan academy result and check students response from Nearpod. Also read students' lab reports and make sure to check if students understood the topic correctly.
