Reading Passage Pre-Assessment
Students will read a passage regarding problems affecting our planet such as endangered species, overfishing and deforestation. Then, students will answer a comprehension worksheet going over vocabulary and identifying first conditional grammar structures.
the 12 students who have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score, but need to develop higher order thinking skills
Initial Strategy / Task
Further Reading and Practice
Students will get into groups of 3 or 4 students and read through their passages aloud and discuss what they believe the main points of the passage are. They will correct their tests together and compare answers. Then each student will complete a grammar worksheet to reinforce the grammar points. Each group will then write a short passage on how they can improve their own impact on the planet using first conditional grammar structure (200 words)

the 5 students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic, of which 3 are struggling with language and are at different reading levels and 2 students who have little to no comprehension of the the topic and need to be tested further for special needs

Initial Strategy / Task
Vocabulary and Grammar Review
Students will first work with the instructor and TA to highlight and go over vocabulary that is confusing or not understood. Once vocabulary is determined, we will read through the passage again and discuss what the meaning behind it is.
Student discussion with Instructor : How can we help save our planet? Why should we care about this?
Student Grammar Snake (groups of 2 and 3)
Students will create grammar snakes using first conditional sentences. Students will color code parts of the sentence structures. Then they will exchange snakes and put the sentences together correctly.

Students will work together in a group to further research and find ways we as a community can help our planet.
Students will be required to use first conditional grammar structure to show what we can do on 3 levels of response:
(Personal, Community, Country)
Students will need to create a poster, video or brochure demonstrating these guidelines and pictures
