Differentiation Strategies
Exit slip: Students indicate an area or areas in which they feel they need additional support to develop a successful essay.
Peer review each other's essays to give and receive constructive feedback before turning it in.
Pair students with different areas of strength and ask that they tutor each other in their respective strong areas.
Offer detailed graphic organizers to scaffold and breakdown the components of the essay.
Give student the option to reflect on their essay, provide deeper analysis and critical thinking as per feedback, and resubmit for a more favorable grade.
Give the student the option of proposing a method of demonstrating their knowledge in a way that utilizes their skills and strengths as long as the final project delivers the same criteria as the assignment requires.

Differentiation Strategies
Challenge student to choose and inquiry statement or problem that requires more research, analysis, and critical thinking.
Allow student to proceed with essay.
Have students peer review each other's essays before turning it in.

Strategies for all levels
May of the differentiations strategies can be adapted to all learning levels.
Exit slips can be used for students to demonstrate what they already know, what is unclear to them, and what challenges them. Once a student indicates any of the previously mentioned ideas, the teacher and student proceed based on the level of the student.
Peer review and tutoring is also beneficial to all learning levels. Students get and receive constructive feedback before having to turn in a final paper. This gives peers the opportunity to learn form one another, ask questions when and if a peer's paper challenges or impresses them, and allows high performers to reflect deeper on their knowledge by teaching peers the concepts.
Offer the students resources in the form of websites with strategies and graphic organizers, examples of well constructed essays, and methods to searching for the right information to inform the essay.
