Impacts of Climate Change
Health
Increase in diseases such as malaria leading to more money needed to be invested into healthcare and an increase in deaths.
Increase in heat waves and heat-related injuries and deaths. For example in the UK in 2003 a heat wave caused over 2000 extra deaths. However, there will be less cold-related injuries and deaths that will occur.
Reduction in viral infections as temperatures rise. There will be less winter illnesses such as the cold which will lead to less pressure on the NHS.
Oceans
There will be a rise in sea levels resulting in many coastal areas being flooded. This will result in many people losing their homes and livelihoods as well as reducing land availability making it more expensive.
The ocean temperature will increase resulting in an increased fish stock in many oceans and changes to the types of fish and their location which would affect the fishing industry.
Landscape
There will be more marshland resulting in an increase in marshland species but a decline for many native wildlife as more of their habitat will be replaced by this marshland.
More landslides will occur to to the increased rainfall, leading to the disfigurement of the landscape and the destruction of many habitats leading to a loss in wildlife. More money will also need to be investing in helping areas affecting by these landslides.
Hydrology
Sewers will be flooded more often so money need to be spent on upgrading/rebuilding these sewage systems. This could also lead to more diseases/illnesses.
Rivers will be flooded more often which could affect many towns and cities across the country leading to a lot of building damage and increased spending for flood defences.
Population
A lack of land will make houses more difficult and expensive to build, resulting in a larger homeless population.
There will be more disease amongst people leasing to a bigger strain on the NHS and the death of more people potentially decreasing the population.
Vegetation and Organisms
There will be an increased amount of insects due to the warmer climate leading to more illnesses putting more strain on the NHS.
There will be an increased amount of tropical vegetation, altering ecosystems and bringing along new species into the UK whilst getting rid of older ones.
Weather
An increase in extreme temperatures means that social adaptations will be required.
Extreme weather events such as hurricanes will become more frequent which could hinder development and mean that more money and energy would need to be put into building protection against these events.
Climate
Jetstreams and low-pressure systems would move southward meaning that improved forecasting will be required.
Altered weather patterns will increase droughts and forest fires.
